This year, students in Mrs. Davey’s fourth-grade class are partnering with kindergarteners in Mrs. Nelson’s class for weekly buddy reading. During this special time together, students build reading fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary, while also forming meaningful friendships across grade levels.
The excitement is contagious when buddies meet each week! One kindergartener shared, “I get really excited to see my buddies.” A fourth grader added, “I like that we always have different partners. It’s fun getting to read to them and getting to know a new kid each week.”
Buddy reading isn’t just fun, it’s a research-based practice that helps build confidence and a love of reading in students of all ages. We are so proud of the kindness, leadership, and joy our students bring to this partnership!
